Welcome to VGDC

Welcome to the official blog of the Video Game Development Club @ UC San Diego! This week, we'll be giving a quick explanation of what VGDC is, and what you can expect out of the club.

VGDC is a multidisciplinary student-run organization at UC San Diego that focuses on teaching and applying the various skills involved in video game development; such skills include (but are not limited to) programming, art, audio, and writing.

Aside from that, we're in large part a social club! One of our main goals as a club is to help our members foster a strong network of fellow game developers among their student body.

We're host to a couple of different types of events! Alongside our dedicated socials, we give members a chance to connect with each other at our general body meetings after a brief presentation discussing our plans for the quarter. Additionally, we organize multiple professional panels per year.

To help develop the skills of our members, we host workshops throughout each quarter focused on the different disciplines used in making a game. We also run several hands-on game development projects throughout the year, with the length and format varying from quarter to quarter.

We post all events on our website and send out reminders in our discord as they approach. We encourage you to check in on both of these regularly to keep up with what we have in store!

This blog is our way of communicating more detailed information with you! More specifically, we use it as a platform to give people in the club a voice, both officers and members. Topics range from discussions about the different disciplines involved in making a game to updates and coverage of club operations.

Posts with a more focused topic are done in a traditional interview format where we sit down with a member and have a more in depth discussion. Event coverage is typically conducted with a larger number of interviewees, with us going around and interviewing those in attendance throughout the course of a given event.

We post here on a bi-weekly basis; all blog posts, past and present, will be available to read on the news tab of our website. If you're interested in the club, we encourage you to check out some of our previous posts!

Come to our events! Whether you're experienced or new to game development, we want to see you in attendance! Even if you're not able to come to every single one, being present in the space goes a long way in helping build a community.

If you're interested in helping out the club in an administrative sense, we open up officer applications as positions become available—keep an eye on our discord throughout the year for further updates!
